What is a Physical Hazard?

An example of a physical hazard is fire, electricity and poor housekeeping.

Physical Hazards can be a substance or a condition. and can cause both injury and illness.

Injuries relating to physical hazards include:

  • tripping
  • slipping
  • falling from a height or on a level
  • being struck by a falling object

Slips, trips and falls are the most common cause of major injuries in the workplace.
